Sheriff J.D. Roseman was born in the small town of Isola in Humphreys County, Mississippi. Sheriff Roseman is better known to the community as “Bubba”. He is an active member and deacon of the Mt. Carmel M.B. Church where he also sings with the choir. He is married to Marilyn Deere-Roseman and has five (5) children.   

Sheriff Roseman graduated from Humphreys County High School in Belzoni, Mississippi, and later decided to pursue a career in law enforcement. Sheriff Roseman began his career as a patrolman with the Isola Police Department in 1981. In 1976, he became a fireman and was later appointed Fire Chief of the Isola Fire Department in 1989. In 1996 he was appointed Chief of Police in Isola, Mississippi. From 1985-89 he also worked as a patrol officer with the Belzoni Police Department. In 2001 he started a career with the Humphreys County Sheriff’s Department becoming the first black Chief Deputy. In 2008 he became the first black Sheriff of Humphreys County.

Sheriff Roseman’s credentials consist of but are not limited to: Certification with the Law Enforcement Officers’ Training Academy in Pearl Mississippi, Certified Jail Administrator, Member of the Mississippi Sheriff’s Association and he serves on the board of the North Central Narcotic Task Force.

Sheriff Roseman has received many awards but two (2) very prestigious awards consist of: The 2010 publication of an article on his behalf in the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Association Magazine. He received the Congressional Honor Award through the House of Representatives presented by the Honorable Bennie Thompson during the proceedings and debates of the 112th Congress, First Session in Washington D.C., July 21, 2011.





Gail F.Hood, Office Administrator


Gail F.Hood, started her Law Enforcement career in 1990 with the Belzoni Police Department as a Telecommunicator. Ms. Hood later became A TAC Officer(Traning Agency Coordinator) for the Belzoni Police Department. Ms. Hood Responsibilities Included: Implementing policies and procedures, scheduling of work assignments, preparing for audits, and executing telecommunication training.

In April 2000, Ms. Hood transferred to the Humphrey's County Sheriff's Department, as Office Administrator. Ms. Hood is responsible for the direction, coordination and overall management of the department. Ms. Hood is responsible for assisting in implementing personnel policies and procedures, scheduling of work assignments and executing the objectives set by the Executive Officer. As Administrator, Ms .Hood additionally has an opportunity to apply and assist in obtaining grant funds for the Sheriff's Department. Ms. Hood also assists in other areas of the grant process including initializing, research, following-up communication and reports. Ms. Hood analyzes, monitors, and prepares weekly and monthly reports; cash journal reports, request for purchase orders, inventory receiving clerk, assisting in budget formulation and modification, audit preparation and reimbursements. Ms. Hood will follow all the guidelines set forth by the state for the allocation of said funds.
