HUMPHREYS COUNTY TRIAD

Major polls indicate that crime and the fear of crime impact severely on older Americans. Recognizing the challenging situation presented by a rapidly increasing number of older persons in the county, we desire to identify and offer ways of dealing more effectively with many of the problems faced by older citizens.

Because of the aging of the population and the increasing demands being placed on law enforcement agencies to meet the needs of older citizens, Sheriff J.D. Roseman made it a special project to get the TRIAD program organized and operational in Humphreys County. Sheriff Roseman said, “We must dedicate particular awareness to the needs of our senior citizens."

WORKING TOGETHER TO REDUCE CRIME AGAINST THE ELDERLY

The Humphreys County Sheriff’s Department along with other law enforcement entities and senior citizens has formed a local triad program here in Humphreys County.  TRIAD is a three-way commitment among the Sheriff, Chief of police, and older or retired leaders. TRIADS work to improve the quality of life for seniors by providing an opportunity for the exchange of information between law enforcement and older persons. TRIAD also focuses on reducing the unwanted fear of crime for senior citizens.  As a group, older people can be a more powerful and active force. As individuals, they can be vulnerable and may need help.

We urge every senior citizen age 60 and over to take part in this program and become an active force in the community.  Let your voice be heard, and we can all come together and formulate an agreement to enhance the delivery of law enforcement services to older persons.
